Hello everyone.

My 2000 Discovery II has a rust spot. In the RR door jamb, just below the latch. I have obtained the entire "dog leg" section from Will Tillery and will have probably the worlds' greatest welder (my brother, and no kidding, he is!!) weld it in for me. But I was curious, is this a common place to rust through? I have no other rust other than a bit below the A pillar on both sides which I plan to address when I put on rock sliders later this fall.

the D1 was notorious for rusting there. not so much the D2. looks like you got (un)lucky.


Edit: looks like i]m wrong and that's a fairly common spot.

 

Yes, fairly common. The fender liner joint is there. It catches mud and salt causes rust there.

 

The '04 that I just picked up has rust there -- and only there on the whole truck.

 

weird. i have/had three D2s and none had rust there. one even lived in Detroit most of its life. frame is rusting away but not a spot of body rust.

unitl the OP's post i hadn't seen rust in that spot on any D2s.

 

I saw two in the last couple of weeks for sale nearby that were completely rusted through in that spot. But not many otherwise.
