Default Safety neutral switch

2003 Discovery. Bought at auction and was in limp mode. I cleared codes and put a new battery in. The tranny will not change into gears. Was planning to clean safety neutral switch to see if it resolves this? My scanner only allowed me to clear codes but did not show me any codes.

The Rover guys around here refer to that Neutral Safety as the "xyz switch" if you want to improve your search results.

Kudos to you on the new battery, as a low battery is 1 of the many triggers for Limp Home mode. Other triggers include oil on the crank position sensor (CPS), a bad transmission ecu (cheap on eBay), a bad xyz switch (obviously), and others.

#1: what codes are showing up?
#2: can you manually change the gear position underneath your truck on the side of the transmission?

Any cheap scanner should be able to give you the codes. That's going to help a lot with your diagnostic process.

I may not have been clear on the transmission. I can drive it but it is not shifting from 3-4, 4,5 and running at 3,500 rpms. I will put my scanner on it again and let you know the codes.Hoping to get this thing going! Dash lights
