Default SAI filter options

instead of spending $60 on replacing the entire filter housing and filter is there a wix, fram, purolator part # for the paper filter cartridge in the canister that can take place of the stock one?

Home depot my friend. Look for the plumbing aisle that has A/C air filters, specifically the foam replacement for window units. Purchase for 3 bucks or so and cut to fit.

I finally took out the SAI pump and disassembled it.
The pump is easy to disassemble like the heater fan. It has 6 rivets that keeps in encased so you can't take it totally apart.

The filter was dirty so I tried to clean it with just water but it deteriorated in my hands.

I bought a $20 K&N air filter (#62-1370) off of ebay that clamps onto the SAI pump after you remove the plastic filter cover.

Just wanted to add a few notes to this. I carried this out today and it seemed to quiet the SAI quite a bit. JUKE- Didn't mean to steal your photo, but I forgot to take pictures until after I started re-assembly. I made my edits in green.

I've got an 04' disco, so I'm not sure how relevant this is to the 99-02' models.
When you pop the cover off the SAI pump and remove the filter, there is a bit of plastic that protrudes from the pump to keep the cover from being sucked against the air pipe. I had to use some cable cutters to clip this part out.

You can see below that the fitting slides on better with the plastic out of the way.

The next problem I ran into was the vent canister was too close to the pump, and the bracket wouldn't seat properly since the new filter was in the way.

Thankfully, the metal bracket is pretty fragile. Without much effort I was able to bend it in the direction of the green arrow. There's plenty of room for it to move, so now the canister sits on its bracket with a good amount of space between it and the filter.

Hopefully this helps anyone doing this mod. The above write up was amazing, but these were just a few things I ran into, and I thought it might be helpful for some of the newcomers looking to replicate.

Been running this mod for a few days now. CEL threw out P1414 and P1417. I suspect the pump is on its way out. I'm thinking that the pump is too weak to efficiently pull air through the new filter so I'll be replacing that. I've replaced everything else in the SAI at this point so the pump has been suspect for a while. Just tagging this on as an FYI.

Center punch and drill the rivots.
See what condition it is in inside.
It can be reassembled with nuts and bolts.
I bought the K&N filter Juke posted too.
It's on my long list of things to do.

Glad I'm not alone here. You wouln't happen to know off the top what size bolt you'd need for the reassemble do you?

No, I haven't done anything with it yet.
But, anything that fits really. Standard, metric, thread size and pitch don't really matter, just the outside diameter of the bolt.
A little silicone around the seam isn't a bad idea either.
