Are you the one the dealer was trying to screw?
No, they are not rebuiliable as such, yes you can buy good guaranteed used ones.
What tests were done to verify they have failed?

Mike just looking at the possibility of having to replace them....I currently have the intermediate three amigos I am in the process of getting the scan taken care of...I will do the three quart brake flush and inspect the hubs this weekend...I have had the truck for about a month just going through it and getting familiar with things that need to be addressed....

DII unit bearings are one of the main reasons I bought a D1 for off-road

I had the amigos on and off for a while, then they stayed on. A scan said it was the right front sensor. The hubs seemed fine for a while but now I can hear one is definitely going bad even though I still can't detect any play in it. Anyways I ordered a new one with sensor from British Pacific for $240. That seems to be the best deal going, I'm not sure why though. There could be other reasons you have the amigos of course.

They are probably the proline hubs. I have not heard much about them good or bad so that is probably a good thing as they have been around a while. I will add that I've had 2 hubs fail that were OEM so I really would not mind giving aftermarket hubs a try.

I bought a front right on eBay last year and installed it as my first major drive component fix. If you watch used ones are $40 - $50 each on eBay. I would replace a few used ones a couple times before I paid $250 or $400. The most difficult part of the hub replacment it removing the disc brake rotor. Other than that a good puller and you be gentle removing the ABS sensor and its a easy DIY job.
