It sounds like you've already replaced everything several times. Maybe it's time for a new tensioner if your belt is slipping. Is coolant or something dripping on it (a assume you would have noticed that). Maybe it's not aligned, how long did the noise start after you removed the ace. I don't think there's anything that could have loosened up and shifted over time.

It looks as though it's the AC clutch. Per your advice, I sprayed siliconinto the AC clutch and the chirping stopped...but came back again but its much quieter now. The AC is engaging properly and blows cold air. Can Ijust replace the AC clutch instead of the entire compressor?

Belts don't scream, they slip on some either because the belt is not tight or you have a bad bearing so go back to the basics and check each pulley and idler till you find the noisey one.

Yes but it might be easier to just replace the whole thing.

Might be worth giving him a call.
I do not know if he will ship it to you or not.

This weekend I put in an A/C compressor unit (new). While everything was apart I also cleaned and turned each pulley to see if I could detect any squeal but found nothing. Bought a new serpentine belt, put everything back together and wouldn't you know, the @^&* screaming is still present!
Now I have spent so much money replacing virtually everything (water pump, fan clutch, 70 and 80 mm idler pulleys, tensioner pulley and assembly, A/C compressor, 3 serpentine belts). Below is a picture in red of the parts I've replaced. Can anyone tell me what the parts (in yellow) are that I have not yet replaced and how difficult their replacement might be?

Default Serpentine Belt Replacement on DISCOVERY SERIES I

Gentlemen,

If I may ask a question regarding my DISCOVERY SERIES I 1997 EDITION
SERPENTINE BELT REPLACEMENT.

Is there any difference between the DI and DII as far as serpentine belt?

I am ordering a new one today from AB, so this thread is of major interest to me as well as to you DII guys.

It sounds like to me that replacement should also include a thorough cleaning and inspection pf all pulleys and associated hardware and equipment.

Do you advocate brake cleaner over electronic circuit spray cleaner?

What should receive special attention if any?

Is there any suggested lubrication or any thing else while I have the old belt off?

Any special things to know regarding installation of the new one?

This will be my first time doing anything with the serpentine belt on my DISCOVERY I. Thanks for any inputs as always.

They are different.

Brake cleaner is fine, just make sure it doesn't drip onto anything, put a towel under it. I would only clean the pulleys if you see something in the grooves, or if you have a squeal.

At 120K, you may want to look into a new tensioner as well.

Just make sure that if you are cleaning the pulleys to only get it on the surface where the belt rides. You do not want to soak it into any of the bearings..

Default screaming serpentine belt

Got a 2000 Rangie. Had the screaming belt problem, the old one was cactus with perishing and bits missing. Put on new one. Screaming still happenning. My Cure: One idler pulley, a plastic one, had flat sections around its circumference. Replaced that with a GM one from a 1990 Holden...same size outer and bearing. No more screaming. Aahhhh!!!
