Default Screech When Starting

Hey Guys,

I have a 1999 Disco II with 130K on the clock. Last night I went out to startthe truck and she made a loud screech and didnt turn overwhen I turned the ignition key. I turned the key off and immediately tried again and she started just fine. This is the first time she has done this. Any thoughts?? Starter?? Serp Belt/tensioner???

You need a new starter.
The gear on the starter is not fully engaging the teeth on your flywheel and they are grinding.
If you let this go to long you will be looking at big money as you will need a new starter and flywheel.
You need to seperate the engine from the transmission to replace the flywheel.
You only need to remove the starter from the engine to replace it.

The only thing that could cause that, assuming you don't have a pulley failing, would be the starter's bendix gear not engaging into the flex plate, if that is it, you should change it out ASAP so you don't damage the flrx plate.
