Best, why do you prefer the '99 and '02 over the '04? Just curious.

I like non SAI & it’s easier to find on 99-02’s 03-04 = a few are around but much harder to come across. I then prefer the older headlights made of glass, and the earlier 99 models came loaded with a ton of options before they started the S/SE/HSE Trim levels. My 99 has ACE (had SLS), F/R heated windshield, heated seats, Harmon Kardon stereo, dual air, 7 seats, and the alarm sensors mounted in the headliner.

I honestly feel LR was putting out better quality D2’s early on as they were trying to sell them vs 03-04 where LR was just trying to get rid of them to start LR3 production. The 03-04 facelift D2 front ends look awesome, but once those headlights glaze over or get moisture build up upon cold/hot starts & weather it looks **** poor IMHO. Also the 4.6L isn’t my favorite, I’ve had far better results with 4.0L Bosch engines vs 4.6L Bosch.

I like my S model 04 without sunroofs, but if I had to sell a LR the 04 would be the first to go no doubt. I had a guy offer me 6k the other day, and I honestly think it’s worth more. Zero rust, just pass 110k on it, all electronics work, clean body, clean paint, mint interior, 3inch RTE lift, ARB front bumper, and kind of a rare color Vienna Green with a black interior (most had a beige interior).

Those are the reasons I expected you would cite.

Non-SAI. Check!!!

Glass headlights. Check.

Features. Check - My '99 is loaded (no ACE or heated windshield but that's okay).

I also prefer the tan dash vs. the black that's more common in '03-'04s.

Yeah the tan Dash is nice, I don’t mind the black with a black interior but with alpaca it’s funky.

Default Still searching

I am still searching for my 04 discovery hse. SALTR19494A835635
I started a thread several years ago, and every month or so I google search the VIN but it has never come up. Just the same old websites and the sites that claim they can give you info on it but don't actually give you anything you cant find for free.

If anyone has any info please let me know.

Looks like it's in Michigan.

https://www.carsalehistory.com/carde...94A835635.html

Dealer closed currently, but if you really want to find it, track down the auto dealer owner, or you could maybe spend a few $ on a search site.....

https://www.epicvin.com/check-vin-nu...35635?type=vin

or search local tax record /lien account holders.....
https://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,4670,...8744--,00.html

https://www.michigan.gov/documents/bdvr153_16280_7.pdf

or hire a private detective.....

It was sold by that Michigan dealer who had purchased it at auction. That dealership is out of business. I tried one of the vin search sites that you pay for- I am not going to disparage any site but I will say buyer beware if your trying to find a cars owner. Those sites do not have access to ownership information (understandable). They show you a state and maybe a town but the fee based sites only collect service & sales records and maybe state registrations they cannot (or do not) give you current ownership. Only law enforcement or a state DMV can track a VIN and I dont have friends at either. Maybe a dealership could track if the vehicle was being service by a LR dealer but again I don't have friends at a dealership. I had an independent mechanic work on it and I think he was more upset then my wife when I sold the car since it paid his mortgage every month and the new 2013 outback we purchased has required nothing except scheduled maintenance for 78K miles and counting.

I appreciate the feedback. Finding this car is a bit of a pipe dream and not one that I pursue very hard. If someone on this site sees my thread and runs across it great-If I plug the VIN into a google search and it shows up for sale great- It would be a nice surprise for my wife (it was her car) and become an around town driver. If it never turns up its still fun to think "what if".

You need to get a fan club to help you find it. Or call a local news station and talk to a reporter. Tell them your story and see if they will run with it as an interesting piece. 60 seconds on the 6:00 news and you’ll have it back in no time. Or pay a P.I. They can find anything.
