Default Seems reasonable to me?

Mileage is indeed high (173k) but does anyone else think this all justifies an asking price of $4,800? Seems like it does to me. Following is the response from the seller....

"New head gaskets, oil pan gasket, water pump, valve seals timing chain set , front seal. Rear main seal did not appear to be leaking, so I did not go through the hassle of pulling the engine or transmission to do anything with it. All belts and hoses new. New coolant recovery tank. This engine has never been overheated. But it was leaking quite a bit of oil and antifreeze from pretty much everywhere, so I tore it down and resealed it up. I have found in research that the head gaskets are known to be an issue on these engines, so I figured I would replace them before they went. Bottom end of engine is tight. Cylinder walls look excellent. This motor ran fine before I took it apart and did not smoke, it just leaked, as you know they do.
Frame does have some rust on the lower portion of rails towards the hitch. I would not say unrepairable, but there is rust there. Rest of frame is fine.
Headliner is drooping in a few spots, but overall not too bad. There's no issue with the drive shaft that I am aware of. I haven't really looked at that. There's no vibration of any kind from this vehicle when you drive it. It is as smooth as butter.
I've Tried to get out in front of any of the known mechanical failures that these have so I could sell a vehicle that was at least decent. You can't put a guarantee on something with 170,000 miles. But I don't want to sell something and have it break down a week after I sold it from normal use. If they take it out, abuse it, neglect it...that's on them. Overall, it's as nice as anything else that age that I've seen around.
I did the heads about 1000 miles ago. Lights and all electrical work perfectly fine. I did a driver side door lock actuator on it also because the other one was froze up. The only thing that I am aware of that does not work on it is the driver side heated seat. The passenger side heated seat works fine. All windows and both power moonroof's work fine. Radio works great. There is a six disc CD changer under the passenger seat which I've never used.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. If I know the answers to them, I'll definitely tell you. One thing I found out, you better be able to turn wrenches if you're in the Land Rover's. If you know how to do that, and keep up maintenance, they're great rides."

My experience is that you can usually get it for half of what they ask. They know it is iffy in the reliabilty dept and bad on gas and has been for sale a long time. I once got one for $500 that was originally listed for $3800. I made the offer and he said no. I left my number and a few months later bingo.

Hell YES!!!!!

" Frame does have some rust on the lower portion of rails towards the hitch. I would not say unrepairable, but there is rust there. Rest of frame is fine. "

So the frame has rust on, " the lower portion of the rails..." that's all well and good but the majority of the frame rust will be on the top of the rails (i.e. holes).

$4800, sorry just NOT feeling it! What is the Retail BV about $1500 -$2000 on it's best day? In the end it's your money, but INSPECT the hell out of this rig. Or pay a few dollars and have it inspected at an Indy Rover Shop. Good Luck!!

There is no such thing as rust only on the bottom of rails. The vortex effect will swish slush and salt all over the frame. You are in Baltimore, where is this car located? I see mountains in the background and where there are mountains there are salted roads.

The rust aside, that’s a lot of engine work done by someone with an unknown skill set. I did my head gaskets and was a first timer, 60k miles later still running strong. Did I get lucky? Probably. Will you have the same luck? I dunno.

$1200 isn't bad for that half frame at all.
I can see it saving some otherwise good Discos.
