Default Selling Advice - 2004 disco

Hey everyone, it's been a while. I wanted to get one last piece of advice from everyone. I'm regretfully selling my truck, and am wondering what everyone thinks about the selling price. I started at 8900 and wasn't getting many bites, so I thought to drop the price a bit and add in the OBO. It's listed on here (link below) and in a few cities around the Knoxville Tn area on Craigslist. I haven't gotten to listing it on Ebay just yet, but that's my next step. Let me know what you all think about the asking price, the ad listing, etc. I took all of the engine work off today as I thought it might be scaring most people off.

Thanks for the advice and criticisms

If you really want to sell it....your asking too much for it. Lower your asking price to just above your lowest acceptable offer and then stick to the number (or stay very close) when you counter. If its the right price/value it will move.

First, let me say - that is a very nice Disco. If you were closer to Detroit I would totally check it out. I am in the market, and that one has all the boxes checked.

Second - When gas is at ~$4.00 a gallon, people get pretty apprehensive about spending money on an SUV that will struggle to get 18 mpg on the freeway. Not to mention the fact that LR3 prices have dropped to the point where one with similar mileage to your Disco II can be had for 12-13k.

What you need to do is find someone who WANTS a Disco II, and that is it. You need to do autotrader/cars.com and/or ebaymotors. Only posting it on the local craigslist is really limiting your audience, and with this type of car, the buyer may want to come to you.

Also, I have found that you definitely hit a sweet spot with $$$. I was selling a car and had it priced at $11,200 for a few weeks, which was right around KBB but I was leaving about $1000 leeway in the price. I had NO hits. Dropped the price to $10,995 and had 8 calls that very day. Sold it in no time. Maybe $7995?

First, what state are you in? In some areas, yes it may be a little high in many they are getting more for a clean 04. How are you advreising it?

@Drewdub: Thanks for the compliment. I've put a lot of work into this truck..and I'm really sad about selling it, but Dave Ramsey says sell it, so it's gone! I've taken into consideration the fact that it get's horrible gas mileage, but I'm hoping that the fact that it's a completely safe truck in a lot of situations (wreck, bad weather, etc) will help it sell. Plus, it can't get much worse than a lot of SUVs in that model range.

@Drowssap: I didn't put new heads on it. It had a small HG leak near the rear of the engine, which warped the left head. The mechanic who did all the work listed put a reworked head on it. It's running great now!

@Mike: I'm in E. Tn. 8900 is probably a little much for the area, but I was hoping to find someone that could appreciate all the work I just put into it and new a thing or two about mechanics. I'm going to put it on Ebay motors tonight. I'll probably try out a couple of other websites as well. As of right now it's for sale here, and on 4 different surrounding cities on Craigslist.

I just dropped the price down to 8000. That's closer to my lowest price, and I'm hoping will help get rid of it.

Here's some non-tech advice: Psychologists say that people online respond more to a price that ends in the number "7" (versus say the "old school" ending in "9.") Listing it as $7997 should make a noticeable difference in calls/leads versus $8000 or even $7999.

Man, I must live on Mars. Every time I see a post about prices, everyone talks about how they get used 03 and 04s for 5-$6000...or everyone is saying that $10000 is too high for an 03 or 04 wth low miles. There isn't an advertised 03 or 04 within 100 miles of me as nice as the one posted here that isn't going for around $11-$12,000!!!! Anything around here selling for $8-$9000 has over 120000 miles on it. my 2 cents.

There are 03/04s listed for that much around here. But you can't convince someone who doesn't know these vehicles, that with all the work done to a truck like mine, 8k is a great deal! I had this conversation with a guy last week, but it fell on deaf ears.
I actually plan on buying a "cheap" disco later on strictly for wheeling later in life.
