Default service engine light at 85K

Is the service engine light a real problem or just a 'get into the dealer to shut off the light' problem - everything else seems to be just fine.

I bought the LR used at about 80K and it is GREAT!

OH yeah - and how can i reset this without visiting the dealer?

TX

Sounds like you are not sure, what are the first 5 letters of the vin?
There is a relay in the passenger kick panel that has a Green Rover emblym on it, should be a pin hole in the middle of it that a paper click wire can be put into which will short the relay, turning of the light for another 80,000 miles or so.
What about maintance, what has been done, will you be doing your own, want a list?

Easy way to tell if it is a DI or DII, is the odometer LCD? How about the heater controls? Electronic or rotory *****?

Ok, go to discoweb.org, click the "tech" section and scroll down and look for the "how to reset the service engine soon light" link, it has pictures and everything.
If the amber check engine light comes on then you will need to have the codes read by a scanner.
As for Mikes 60k list, read it VERY carefully, not all of it pertains to your truck.
DO NOT use DexCool, use Peak Global Lifetime, DO NOT use power steering fluid, DI's uae Dexron III in the power steering system.
Read through your owners manual to see what fluids YOUR truck takes.
It is a good list, but you need to modify it for your truck.
Do a search on this forum for the RAVE download, it is the shop repair manual for our trucks.
