SERVICE ENGINE SOON
I have a 2001 Dicovery with 41K miles, my service engine soon light came on over the weekend...
Do I need to have it serviced or does anyone know a trick to get the message to go away? It runs great and I don't think there is anything wrong with it...
Of course it isn't under warranty...

you can go to auto zone or another auto house and get them to plug in there little computer
this will tell you what is wrong (sometimes, or at least it might get you close)
they can also reset the light.
let use know what is wrong

it is probably just a reset problem. It is always good to have it checked. Many places can check it, and give you the problem or at least a direction to look. As long as the service and all maintanence is up to date, you will most likely have nothing but a reset problem. Others in the forum have answered similar questions. Take a look around and see what you think. Got to love a rover, duboff
i am not sure how the guy at auto zone did it
but last week when i was trying to fihure out that my plug wires were bad
i had auto zone and o'reillys check it out and both places were able to turn the light off
it came back on both time after xause i hadn't fixed the problem
and after i had the new wires put on at a local garage
they turn the light off also, im sure there computer is a little better than a auto house
anyway i am not sure how but i am 100% sure they did, they neven told me they could do it.

or
service engine soon light?
Hey all, new to this forum after another one closed down...LOL. Anyway, I had the SES light come on and go off...thought it was possibly a fuel vapor issue. However, took it to the LR dealer, now, I purchased an extended warranty and I've only got 50k miles on it so, thinking I was covered for the deductible, I got a call from the service writer...it was the Mass Airflow Sensor...doesn't seem noticeable. You may look in that direction as well.
OK....SES light or service engine soon light is only an emmisions reminder. It is set to go on at a certin point in time. Dealer will do a service the reset the light. This has nothing to do with the Check Engine Light, the SES can be reset by you thru a relay under glove box. Check Enging Light means you have a problem.
