Default SES Light and and Misfire codes... Please help

So I posted earlier about my upcoming head gasket job. Got the kit from AB with new bolts delivered today. I have ordered new plugs and wires from BP of Utah but they arent scheduled for delivery until Dec. 13th.

Tonight I was driving home and the SES light came on and motor started idling rough with poor acceleration. Drove home carefully and pulled the codes. This is what I have: P1300, P0301, P0306. I searched the forum and I have found a ton of info (going to spray some water and check for sparks). My question is, when I pull the plugs, what should I look for? Black color? White deposits? Im going to check the coolant level now to see if I lost any, but the truck didn't overheat -- never got over 188F (normal) according to ScanGauge. I wont be able to pull the plugs until tomorrow but I wanted to now what to look for in advance. Thanks for the help.

2004 DII, 69,000k and stock wires (as of right now)

Don't waste to much time trying to figure out what is going on, get your new plugs and wires installed and your truck will be much happier.
Are you going to be doing the entire 60K service?

Default I had the identical codes and it is fixed now

Disco Mike is 100% correct, of course.

Use the sticky at the top of the forum list on maintenance to walk you through wire replacement without manifold removal. That was a huge help to me.

Thanks guys -- I completed the 60k service. Of course, I didn't change the plugs and wires then because I found the seeping head gasket and I decided to wait for that job to do the wires with the intake off. I have been monitoring the seep closely, and topping the coolant as required over the last 8k-9k miles. I have noticed the need to refill more frequently lately which has lead me to complete the head gasket fix over this Christmas break (I am a graduate student and I didn't have the timer money until now).

My main concern over the misfire issue was, since it is either cylinder 1 or 6 (or both) I may have a leak into a cylinder. I was going to check for any evidence of that by pulling the plugs. I will go buy some cheap plugs and replace those initially as I need the truck to get to school until the plugs and wires arrive from BP Utah. Other than that, the 60k service has worked wonders and provided me with the ability to foresee this issue (and order the necessary parts!). Thanks for all of the help, this forum is a lifesaver!

Default On 1 and 6 misfire

Replacing just the plugs didn't solve my problem- only until I replaced wires, too.

On the 1 and 6 misfire combination, those cylinders run off the same coil. It may be that a misfire on either cylinder affects the other, too, which makes some sense.

As I mentioned, I have STI wires and Bosch plugs in the mail. But just to see if I could get it running until they arrived, I replaced the originals with Autolite plugs. The truck idles and runs much better, but I'm still getting a misfire on cylinder six. I'm guessing that's the bad wire. Just an estimate, but how long did it take you to replace the wires? Thanks for all the help,

Default It took about 4 hours

It was 4 hours, start to finish, to install plugs and new wires without removing the intake manifold. I could have done it quicker, but I was really careful and marked the wires, etc. to make sure I didn't get them crossed up. The bent screwdriver recommended in the maintenance section was a big help.

It was very satisfying to crank it up and hear how smooth these engines can be.

Don't keep driving with that coolant leak, it will totally fail one day soon and then you are looking at a possible toasted engine.

Thanks Mike. I will begin the gasket job ASAP. Quick question, where exactly should I use RTV? I have read around the water jackets (whatever those are). Also, RAVE does not mention loctite on the head bolts. Should I not do that? Again, I have found conflicting views on this...

Replaced the wires today with some (extremely) temporary Xact wires from Advance using the non-manifold option. She runs like a top -- thanks for the help.
