Shocks or Spings-- 2004 Disco
Hello,
My disco has 72K miles on it and i've completed the 60K service including changing the front brake pads and disc, but wondered when is the right time to change the shocks and/or springs.
I'm interested in knowing which should i change first, -- the shocks or springs or both at the same time or if changing them is necessary at this mileage.
I'm not interested in anything that provide a lift etc just replace the factory front spring/shocks with a suitable aftermarket replacement. (i just replaced the rear air springs).
Thanks for your help.

There really isnt a set mileage when the shocks go bad. If the disco still rides well and the shocks are not leaking I wouldn't worry about it. Shocks aren't that expensive and only require basic tools and automotive know how to change out so its up to you if you want to do them.
Disco springs are you about an inch and a half lower at your mileage and the factory shocks are long since warn out, giving you a really soft, lack of control, ride.
I would do both of them.
If you want more information on them, send me your number and I'll call you.

Thanks for that information. I gather from what you wrote that its best to replace the shocks and coils. I just replaced the air springs so i need recommendations as to which shocks to get for the rear and shock/spring combo for the front.
I've read many post regarding aftermarket shocks but they all seem to provide a lift (1.5" etc) . Can your or anyone recommend an aftermarket spring that does not provide a lift? or is that only possible with the OEM spring?
Thanks in advance.
