Not even a week after my buddy had a front driveshaft take out a tranny, this happens to me while playing in the snow/mud. And that's with a regularly greased rebuilt shaft.

looks like I have 2 r&r jobs this weekend. I'm going to be a pro at it.






2 dead trannies in a week is bordering on hate crime territory

 

 

So dumb question - I know this is a known issue so does anyone make a protective plate for this? To protect the tranny in general that would assist in these situations?

 

How fast were you going when it happened?

 

 

Ouch. So, this isn't the one Richard was pulling a trans for? Sorry, for your loss. But, this is why l have an extra trans and transfer case sitting in the garage. It's like insurance...as long as l have it...l'll probably never need it...lol.

My 01 had a blown tranny when l bought it. Not a horrible job, just not pleasant either. Pretty tight conditions and rusted crossmembers bolts didn't help things. Just be sure to use heat on them.

I can see from the first pic that the driveshaft hasn't been off in a LONG time due to how the nylock nut looks (IMHO). The centering ball joint should be greased every 20-25k miles which requires drive shaft removal. Sorry for your loss, no spare parts in the back of the rig gonna fix that on the side of the road!!!

 

It's been off not even 2000 miles ago and new ujoints lol


oh well, new trans is going in on the weekend. Minor inconvenience really. Part of the game.
