Default shopping for an alternator

my (03 disco) alternator sounds like a box of rocks so I'm looking for a replacement. there seems to be two variations on this before and after vin 3A239592. what's up with that? does anyone have any suggestions for a good rebuilt or should I go new?

check for a RR alt. they are usually 50 amp's or so higher than disco alt.

Universally stay away from "Rebuilt", which replaces the defective part only. "Remanufactured" replaces everything except the housing and other non-moving parts that don't really go bad. Not sure which one O'Riley's sells.

You can use a 1999-2002 alternator in a 2003-2004 or the other way around.

You can get the older version in a brand new Bosch on amazon for pretty cheap.

If you search this forum you'll probably find a link to it. I think it's around $200.

Get a brand new DENSO.
Don't get a Bosch.
NOTHING REBUILT. NOTHING.

Agree on the Range Rover greater AMP alternator.

Bosch is OE in this application. That and Valeo.

I've had way too many issues with rebuilt as seen in this thread. Shop amazon for a new Bosch. Hopefully you can find one there.

Ouch. I stand corrected. And that's fine.
I guess Denso was OEM on my Discovery I.
I never replaced the alternator on the D2.
The previous owner did!
I escaped that bullet.

Thanks for that madlands.. I never gave amazon a thought. I've got bad bearing screams coming from my alternator. Not to mention a very curious(and dirty) decal that says LAND ROVER on it and a very odd manufacture date.
