Some used car dealers are stupid and will try to hide the fact that it's had major work like a HG job because they think it will scare people away. As a potential Disco owner that nugget would be a big bonus

I am in Utah, but am willing to travel where ever to get the right disco. The one I asked advice about has had the HG's replaced.

 

Unless you find a gem, I'd steer clear of the Seattle market, there seems to be a markup on Rovers in this area for whatever reason.

If you're looking in the $10K range for a Disco, you should be able to find a 2004 with either a rebuilt or superbly-maintained engine (with the HG and other major maintenance/ big dollar work done), and either have some off-road add-ons or be the ultra lux package with every bell and whistle on the list.

If you're wanting to off-road it, hold out for a 2004 so you can get CDL.

 

cant you just add the cdl kit to the '03 pretty easily

No problemo. Yeah, I'm not sure that technical-wise it's anything difficult, just looks like more of a PITA than it's worth. Just find a nice '04 and be done with it

 

Yeah if your looking to lift/offroad it, shop for a 99-early 2001. That way you can lock/unlock the CDL with a 10 dollar wrench.

 

find a nice 1998, it seems to be the key year unless you really want all the new interior changes for the 2000. 2003 is a deathwish, and i woudlnt trust the new ones made by Tata motors... go watch IRT Deadliest roads n find out why hahahaha
