Should I pick this up for the engine?
So, I was looking around on eBay and yes, I know that everyone says a 2004 disco is the best, but I'm not really interested in paying 10k for one either....
Anyways, there is this fire damaged Disco, with what seems to be a good engine, that could be swapped out into a 2003 that is a rolling chassis... $2000 for an engine with 43k on it... Doesn't seem that bad.
ALSO, the vin states that this engine is outside of the oil pump failure period, so the engine should be good to go.
Besides having to replace a few electricals here and there, seems like a decent investment if this is what you're lookin for. Any thoughts?

That is the only way I would ever buy a DII...TD5.
For $2k I dont think you can go wrong.
Looks like the fire was contained to the cabin so everything under the hood should be fine.
I would not try and repair it to drive as there is just way to much that could have melted.
But for the engine, trans, t-case, etc. hell yeah!!
$2000 for a 4.6 is a great deal. If I were in the position to do it I'd jump on it. You can part out what you don't need for your own vehicle and make your money back easily. There's a huge market for used parts since no one can afford new in the current economy.
must have been converted, says it has an Isuzu diesel, which I believe would be a 4cyl. Maybe why the bad mpg? Is almost 4L displacement though

It is a conversion.
The MPG on the sticker is so bad because that was for the gasoline-powered V8 that came in the truck.
