Default Side marker lamp guard installation

Do these just screw right in to the body panel with (what I assume are) sheet metal screws? I'm thinking of making my own but I'm just trying to gather information right now.

I think so, but they do not do much You will loose a mirror or dent the body if you hit one of those.

Haha, good point. Yeah, I wouldn’t pay $80 for the privilege of having them, but I can make them for free for grins and giggles- so I think I’m still going to have a go at them.

Two things...

1. As someone who's sidemarker simply fell out one day on the highway and scratched up the fender over a two hour drive, these would at least have kept it from falling out, haha. From that POV I see their usefulness. Ugly, but useful.
2. To help out the aesthetics, I'd use rivets instead of screws.

RIVETS! Of course! I hate it when there is a perfectly obvious solution I’m familiar with and it doesn’t occur to me. However, on second thought it will make bulb replacement problematic, perhaps Rivnuts are the solution.

Rivnuts are great too. I've so rarely ever had to change the side marker bulbs, so up to you, but for me and the frequency they're replaced, I'd probably still go the rivet route and just drill them out if needed once every five years haha.

I just siliconed mine in place as they kept falling out lol held up pretty well over the years and can still pop them out if bulb needs changing. Helps I don't have any fender liners though..

As a note, if you have an HSE model, with the logo near the side lights, the logo will have to be removed to put those guards on.
I use rivenuts.
