Slushing in Dash
I just took my 2002 Discovery II to the dealership because I had a shoshing sound coming from my dash. I was told there is an air pocket in the coolant system as well as a cylinder head gasket leak. I was told it would be $2500 to replace the head gasket (parts and labor).
I also told them I was hearing a humming noise when I made turns and was told the steering shaft gromet needed to be lubricated.Nobig deal I guess.
I was also told I had a power steering fluid leak and that it appeared the wrong fluid was the cause of the damage. Supposedly the wrong fluid caused the steering box to be damaged so it needs to be replaced along with three very expensive hoses (seed hose pump to steering gear, reservoir to pump, and the return hose). For a total of $1558.52 parts and labor.
Also have to replace the right front passenger side door latch, $365.
Grand Total of $4423.52!!!
I took it to someone else and was told I only needed the power steering pump replaced. Parts and labor was $650. I still hear the sloshing noise.
What else should I expect to go wrong??? Would I be better off trading it in??? Help!

Wow, yeah, call DiscoMike. My 2cents on this is find out how they diagnosed a cylinder head leak. Then verify with a 2nd opinion.
Sloshing noise is air in your coolant system. It doesn't mean you have a head gasket leak, but that is a symptom. Air in your coolant system could be a lot of other things, the cylinder head gasket is just the most expensive one. There are alot of other signs of a cylinder head leak, and Mike will probably talk you through those.
