Default Small coolant leak

I just bought 02' Discovery and I'm smelling coolant after I shut it off. I noticed the drip is coming from the top of the transmission bell housing. Could someone lead me the right direction where this is coming from?

Did you buy it from a dealer? If so take it back.
Most likely the valley pan gasket or ahead gasket.

I agree, if not then go find a shop that can pressure test the coolant system to find the exact leak, most likely going to be head gaskets.

If the t/body heater unit is leaking, it would be dripping on the drivers valve cover, not down onto the tranny.

No, it could be, if he is luckey, a failed valley pan gasket, it can leak coolant also from the back of the engine.

Just done this on my D1 v8, coolant leaking onto the bell housing at the back. My first thought was head gasket, but simply climbed on to the engine with it running, and with a torch and mirror, looked down the back where youcan easily see the headgasket join with the block and my leak was higher up, and it was the intake gasket that had failed on the rear left corner when standing in front of the car.

Incidently, the gasket was modified at some point from a metal "crushable" type to a fibreglass / synthetic one. Total parts including all new bolts was around £35 or $70 ish to you guys.

Took about 5 hours in total to do

I can't see anything. Too cramped even with a 24' flex light and mirror. Any tips to try to visually inspect it. It doesnt seem to want to leak all the time?
