Default Small trans leak, stop-leak fill question

I have a slow leak of transmission fluid coming from the bell housing. I haven't yet worked up the motivation to pull the transmission out and check it out so I thought i would try Lucas Oil transmission additive.

My question is: should i pull fluid out first, add the stop-leak, then fill to the appropriate level? Or should i raise the front up and try to fit the stop-leak in without reducing the actual level of transmission fluid.

The directions on the bottle read to add the stop-leak to the existing transmission fluid.

I would not do any of the above. Get yourself a bottle of the white shepard transmission stop leak. A far superior product.. Then change out your fluid, depending on how long it has been go ahead and do the filter change out as well. add in the stop leak to the NEW transmission fluid as you re fill the trans. You can add the lucas trans fluid conditioner as some will suggest.I use a gallon jug that has never had anything other than trans fluid, I mix it all in together instead of trying to add a small bottle. of anything. just my 2 cents.

I agree, change your fluid, filter if necessary and add some White Shepherd tranny stop leak, may have to go on line to find it at Gouniversalproducts.com

Thanks for the tips. I changed the transmission fluid (amsoil) 3 times over the course of about 200 miles as well as the filter not too long ago.

So based on your 4 cents, I'll drain the fluid, mix some white shepherd with new fluid and refill.

Btw, it's definitely transmission fluid.

Only drain out enough old ATF to make room for the stop leak since it is fresh anyway.
