SMELL ANTI-FREEZE or SOMETHING

Geoman wrote on a previous thred that I read: "Secondly --- it is VERY common for the throttle body heater plate gasket to let go and leak coolant on the drivers side valve cover (rear --towards the coil pack and wires) where it is a little difficult to pinpoint the source unless you know what to look for. The kit to fix it is about $15, and the repair is straightforward." I had this same leak in my Disco II and it is possible that this is what your smelling.
Hope this helps- Duckhunteryolo

Thanks Geoman for the tips and your website is great, although it scared the heck outta me! I think that's good though, as I'll know to be aggressive on the maintenance on our critter crawler..... Better find a good rover mechanic in the Dallas / Ft Worth area soon!

They are at 11324 Mathis Ave Dallas Tx 75229 Ph 972-869-4881.
I found the throttle body gasket to be more problem source. see ==> http://www.discoweb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=11290
Whats the PSI for the pressure test? I want to do it at work over my lunch break, just dont wanna give it too much and blow something that was otherwise good.
If you are going to do a coolant pressure test, you usually run up to about 18 or 19 PSI. Th main thing besides the pressure is the time allowed for the test. Don't just pump it up look at the guage for a minute and call it done, give it 10 or 15 minutes to see if the guage drops at all and keep looking for leaks.
i was reading about ur issue and it seems i went through the same experience . for a while i was smelling coolant and had to add it many times even though i couldnt see a leak . stupidly enough i ignored it . few months later my disco sounded extremely rough when idling and acclelerating . it barely took off looked like it was struggling . i took it in to the shop and discovered i had 3 pistons misfiring and running very rough . i replaced both valve covers , spark plugs and wires . runs like a charm now with no coolant smell . the whole thing cost me 3 grand which i heard is a good price for such a repair . still it was the most expensive repair i had to do , but also necessary . this happened a month ago and i have 100K on my 2000 D2 . speaking out of own personal experience if i was u i'd fix that ASAP or , like they already mentioned , u might incur a much more expensive repair .
Tis’ the season for coolant leaks. I ignored mine until I found a dip leak that grew large enough to drain all the coolant in 24 hours (3 days after my dealer warranty expired) Pressure test lead to new gaskets/timing chain & cogs (tons of slack)/H2O pump/de-slugged oil pan // $1200 was nothing compared to a new engine!
Thanks Disco Mike for you insight
