Unhappy Snapped Rocker Cover Bolt?

I have a leak around my rocker cover gaskets and I took the advice to try and tighten the bolts first. According to the rave it said to tighten to 3nm and then a second round to 8nm. I set my new torque wrench to 26in lb and started to tighten the bolt, I heard a snap and I thought this was the click that I reached torque. So I did the other bolt, same snap. I adjust my torque wrench to 70in lb and when I tried to tighten further it just spun. Got that sinking feeling in my stomach right now...

Now I'll admit this is my first time using a torque wrench, but I never heard a click, just the snap. Is this even something that's possible/probable? I suppose I'll be replacing those gaskets sooner rather than later...

That's what I thought at first, but I triple checked, the settings on the wrench itself are in lb.

Did you check the calibation on the NEW torque wrench before using it?

No there were no calibration instructions except to take it to a qualified technician every 6 months.

I like to check them against one another (torque wrenches)
You can get stainless Allen head replacement at v8tuner

So I guess my question is what's next? What would be the best option for extracting the rest of the bolt? What would happen if I crank the vehicle (to move it into the garage) with 2 bolts not securing the rocker cover?

While I'm removing the upper intake and rocker covers is there anything else I should do while I'm at it?

Crank it and move it. It will leak a little maybe

Take the covers off and see how much is there to grab a hold of. If that doesn't work go get some left hand drill bits or extractor and zip it out with a drill

the worst that will happen is you will have a bigger leak than you started with, you will probably have to drill a hole in the bolt and use an ez-out.

by the way; truth be told first time i used a torgue wrench i snapped a head bolt, so dont fell bad

Hope you didn't use a harbor freight one...those things never are correct. I purchased two from Lowes that are Kobalt brand. Work great and the last two times i had them calibrated they were still spot on.

HF ones snapped my tranny pan bolt. Used a screw extractor and it came right out.
