so even with a snorkel wont the electronics like O2 sensors end up frying if u go over the tires, and looking at the door seals i think that they arent to water tight. anybody found out the hard way?

Moderation is the word. I have seen pictures of people with water coming over the hood, yes you can do it but at what expense.
Use your air intake snorkle on the air filter box as a max guide. Water to the head lights is marginal if you know how to cross a river, anything over that and your ecu will go shutting you down in the middle of the water.

Slow and steady, going either slightly down stream or straight across, never staright into the current.

You MUST keep moving, a nice steady bow wake will keep the water out of the engine bay, stop and you are done, engine will be flooded.
The bow wake creates a cavilty under the front of the truck so the engine stays dry.
The O2's are meant to get wet.
The door seals on a DI are pretty water tight, but again if you stop you are done.
Stop, walk the water first to check for logs, big rocks etc.
Start driving slow and then pick up speed as you go to create the bow wake then hold that speed, it is best if you are in low range before you start, transmission in 2nd gear.
DO NOT STOP!
Once on dry land again drive with your left foot on the brake pedal to heat up and dry off the brakes.
After you get home grease everything and check for water in the diffs and t-case.

If you flood the engine you can get her running again once you are out of the water.

Your ECU is in the engine bay, be careful.

Should not really go straight across, a fast flowing river will act on the whole side of the vehicle and push it down stream easily, you should cross at 45* where possible.

How not to do it, but looks fun !!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mr_pCrhTkk

And a deep crossing in a D2, albeit a Diesel (cough)
