Default So I broke my coolant bleeder screw

So I over tightened the screw like a newb because it was seeping coolant when I was looking at it. I know that some people have replaced this screw through BMW. However I was wondering if I should be able to find something at a hardware store?

What would be the odds of my local LR dealer having them in stock? What if i came to a BMW dealership? Whichever way I can replace this fastest is my option right now.

Thanks as always

Many people have used a screw from the hardware store.

Since you have to replace it you might as well go with this brass one. BMW Brass Coolant Expansion Tank Bleed Screw (Various Applications See List) : Bimmerzone.com It will probably never give you any more problems and doesn't cost to much more.

be careful it's very flimsy..I broke my screw AND then the plastic threads inside. I rigged a rubber plug that worked fine but eventually bought a new hose.

I ordered 2 of those brass bleeder screws others have mentioned here, I would say don't do it. I installed mine, making sure the o ring was intact. Was good for 3-4 days, then while checking oil, I noticed coolant spray marks around hose at brass fitting. I suspect the brass screw doesn't work very well with plastic, changed it back to the plastic. 500 miles later, no problems. Just my .02

I had a similar problem a few months back..search for "bleed screw screwed me" I used a metric bolt I had for a while then ended up with the brass piece as well as replacing the whole upper hose assembly. As you cannot but the connector piece solo. I felt since the original screw had broken with the threads in and then after extraction I used a "closely" matched metric thread bolt I had It was in my best interest to ensure the Brass screw had the best possible threads to work with. I have had no issues since and that was way back in January...

BMW part # 17-11-1-712-788 VENT SCREW is the same part...$3.32.
My LR dealer & BMW dealer are owned by the same person, next door to each other.
LR parts mgr said LR doesn't sell the parts separately, must buy the complete hose assembly. I walked next door with the broken screw and it fits & works perfectly.
You can't use brass with the plastic T fitting, must use the plastic screw. Go to BMW and buy a couple to toss in your trunk.

My Brass screw has been on for about a year now. No problems. I thought about using teflon tape but thought I would let the O-ring do its work. No leaking on mine. I have a spare T and plastic screw if I have problems, but none are anticiapted.

While bleeding air from my system, I lost my bleed screw. It fell, and I couldn't find it in my gravel driveway. I picked up 2 from the local BMW dealership for $5
