Somedays I am a genius...
And then there are days like yesterday. Everyone should get a good laugh out of this.
I went to Pepboys and picked up a cheap set of fog lights since I removed my factory fog lights to gain a little ground clearance. Since I will probably upgrade to better lights in the future I used hose clamps to hold the lights to the lower bar of my brush bar. It actually worked out even better than I expected. So I get them mounted and all wired up the way I want. The fog lights come on with my parking lights if the switch is on and go off when I switch to my high beams. That's the way I think fog lights should be wired so that's how I did it. 2 relays and a mile of wires got it done. I spliced into the factory fog light switch so everything looks pretty inside.
So after all the wires were run and secured it was time to test. Turn on the parking lights, push the fog light switch...nothing. So I start thinking things through and realize the ground wires for my relays aren't hook up. Get those hooked up, go back and try again...nothing. Now I'm really stumped. Starting checking all the wires, nothing wrong that I can find so it's time to bring in the multimeter. As I'm walking over to the toolbox I figure I'll double check that I have a good fuse in the holder. I grab the fuse holder that is right next to the battery and realize that the end that is supposed to be hooked to the battery is just hanging loose next to the battery terminal. Hook up the power lead, turn on the parking lights and surprise, surprise my fog lights come on. Pull back on the stalk to flash the high beams and the fog lights go off and the driving lights come on, just they way they should.
Once again a simple oversight makes me look foolish.
