Spares, What to save before junking?
Housing is different between a 4.0 & 4.6, but the actual sensor itself = same part.
- Sunvisor clips
- Door lock actuators
- Sunroof motors
- CPS
- MAF sensor as stated
- 02 sensors
- Hoses for spares
- IAC valve
- Purge valve
- Coils
- Wires
- Power steering pump (you can rebuild off the truck)
- Alternator
- Idler pulleys
- Master cylinder and brake booster
- ECU/BCU/Instrument cluster
- Steering wheel depending on condition
- Seat switches
- Rear bumper if you have the room
- Brake sensors if you are up for it.
- Tail door bezel
- Cowl panel
BTW, I need some Bahama Beige interior parts, if you feel like selling a few send me a PM or email.
I think the universal answer applies here --- it depends.
It depends on how much storage space you have. It depends on your appetite for dismantling. And it depends on your financial resources available to buy parts later that you'd otherwise send to the crusher now.
I'd focus first on high(er)-value parts that are more likely to fail. Here's my quick list. It presumes you don't have unlimited storage space. Otherwise, just keep the whole truck!
You'll find that some on this forum will advocate keeping A LOT more parts, and in the end it's up to you and your risk tolerances and physical constraints. I personally think some of the prior recommendations are overboard, but I respect that they are the personal recommendations of those forum members and that they are borne of the problems that have beset them with their trucks, as are mine. I hope this helps.

- XYZ switch - Crazy-expensive new, and a known failure point
- Alternator
- Starter
- Drivers door lock actuator
- MAF sensor
- Upper radiator hose T-fitting
- Spark plug wires - Having spares is a good idea if they're decent and you already have them

XYZ switch is a good add. Starter is reasonable priced at Autozone, not sure I would put a used one of those back in as it is usually the brushes that wear out, especially one off a 99. As far as the upper hose Tee, I have a bucket full of those if anyone wants a spare or two - free if you pay shipping. They are useless after the inline mod and I refuse to drive a sell a truck without it.
