Great results with NGK & Autolite Double Platinum or Iridium Plugs here on all my LR's.

Why not use the factory Champions?

The 7070s in my truck have 7-1/2 years and 52K on them and they're still going strong. I plan to replace them at 60K per the factory maintenance schedule.

I've ran the champions and have heard good reviews about the ngk's and wanted to give them a shot.

NGK BPR5EIX or Autolite XP3924 is what I use at 6.99 each. The Bosch setup is designed for Platinum/Double Platinum/Iridium Plugs vs standard copper core plugs.

NGK BPR6ES
$2.49/ each

I read about NGK and did a search for Land Rover Discovery. Positive reviews for BPR6ES and affordable. I removed the double Platinum Champions. So far the NGK have good responsiveness. Have not done a MPG comparison. TBD. They may not last as long as a platinum plug but I have no problem replacing after a year at that price.

Older LR's with a dizzy or GEMS were designed around copper core plugs. The Bosch setup is different. It is "optimized" for Platinum/Double Platinum/Iriduim Plugs. Now that doesn't mean copper core plugs don't work. It just means you'll get the longest life/efficiency out of the Platinum/Double Platinum/Iridium plugs.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use Bosch x2, or x4 plugs with the center electrode that sits flush with the insulator. They'll foul up fast and you'll be doing the mis-fire dance before you know it.

Exactly.

I've never argued that the trucks won't run well in the short term with copper plugs, but the copper plugs will fail in a small fraction of the mileage the double platinums will yield.
