What makes them so special is that they are for a Land Rover. And if you own a LR you must be loaded and can afford anything.

Land Rover lug nuts are designed so that they are the same size as several other nuts on the vehicle. The theory being that you need very few tools to work on the vehicle and it is an easy vehicle to work on. Ofcourse these make the lugs very special and they work on pretty much nothing else but Rovers. I have a few extra lugs for a Series I and will sell them to you cheap if you need them.

The lug nuts on my 98 w/alloy wheelsare very large and heavy. I'm talking big-rig grade heavy! There is also a polished stainless steel cap and an integrated washer. I showed it to several of my car buddies and all were amazed.I thought $13 was highway robbery, but after seeing it, I understood how heavy duty they were. Doesn't seem necessary to have such heavy duty lug nuts, but that's part of the Land Rover beefiness. It also adds to the unsprung weight and, along with all the other heavy-duty components, contrubutes to a heavier vehicle andpoorer fuel economy. Treat the lug nutswith care as you remove as they are expensive to replace.

Dont you just LOVE the simplicity of these trks? Made/designed so that you can work on them in the field.
Who would have thought that yoiu could use a lug nut somewhere else on the trk?

This thread reminds me, I need to buy a new set for each tire (30 Lug nuts) One looks like someone tapped it, but I was pissed, couldnt find a socket that could fit it and my tire iron didnt have a large enough size... Got a ride to sears bought my self a craftsman wrench and socket that will fit it, took me a good hour to unseize the nuts... I swear if i find the previous owner im gonna bring her through hell and back asking her why she didnt take care of the car. On a good note Im learning alot about vehicle repair.

And thats right about people sterotyping LR owners, everyone at work thinks im loaded cause i have a 97 Disco 1 (they cant tell the difference between the series 1 and 2 so they think I have a 2000 and Up version, depending on who you talk to) and mine needs the most work out of any vehicle on the lot lol

M ex wife crapped herself when I bought mine. "How can you afford that? You dont have any money." So I told her that the child support that she pays me every month makes my payments for me.
She wouldnt talk to me for two weeks, it was great. She still doesnt know that I paid cash for it. And she dosent know that it is a '97, she thinks that it in newer. I love my Land Rover.

OxyCoRover-you only need 20 lugs, five per wheel x four wheels=20. The spare only has three and they are the "naked" lugs. So no need to replace those.
