Default Speedo sensor?

My speedometer started fluctuating then going to 0 then fluctuating again and now it doesn't work at all. I have a real time scanner going and the computer is reading 0.0 miles per hour. Should I assume it is the sensor and not corrosion on the computer? Where is the sensor located on the transmission and what is the process to fix it?

Thanks a bunch!

I would check the harness connection on the driver side of the trans just behind the XYZ switch. If that's good, you could check the sensor itself. Drop the pan and its on the rear side of the valve body.

Yes, check that trans plug mentioned above by Red5. The pins can get pushed out of the connector, while pushing it on. Pull the connector and look for pins that are pushed back inside the connector. Very common issue.

Also, check continuity of speed sensor wire between trans module and connection on transmission...especially if the vehicle has been sitting for a while. Had an issue with my wife's 03 after replacing engine (vehicle sat for three months, while looking for an engine). During the wait, a mouse decided this was a good time to chew through some transmission wires inside the center console. I pulled the window switch panel and looked inside console...lowandbehold...chewed up wiring harness.
