Squeaky noise 2004 Discovery
Alright kids...another issue with the 2004 Discovery. Brought her back yesterday from dealer after she got new tires and had her driveshaft checked out (they said it was fine). She drove great. Loud noise from front still but no squeaking.
Started her this morning and there was a squeaky noise coming from under the hood somewhere. I'm pretty sure it's just on the driver's side. Anyways, it was still there when I got to work. I hear it when I am idle-ing and when I take my foot off the accelerator. The only time the noise goes away is when I am accelerating.
The ONLY thing different betwen yesterday and today is that its been raining here since last night.
Do you think it's the belts?
She's going back to the dealer today - less than 36 hours after coming back from the dealer!
Thanks kids!

I can't believe what I read on your opening thread. You took it to the dealer to have the drive shaft inspected, there is nothing to inspect, it has to be rebuilt or replaced and a dealer won't/can't do the work so sure they will tell you it is OK.
As for the squeak, open the hood and get in there and locate the noise or a lot more specific area from where it is coming from, then get back to us, giving us something to work with.

where are you located in NY? I can help you....
The noise goes away after I drive it around for a bit. It's there when I start it in the morning but disappears later.
The car is going back in the shop because of the squeaking and also because the cabin noise is still very loud. The engine is too loud...other people have noticed too.
I finally got the 140 point inspection. But get this...they just wrote up a new one and check marked everything as ok. It's not the original 140 point inspection. I can't believe this is a Land Rover Dealership!!!
Thanks for the help.

Before you open your check book to some mechanic that will except all you have, be a lot more specific as to the engine noise and squeaks, we can help with decent info.
If your front shaft has not been rebuilt, doesn't matter what it looks like, it will fail, usually without notice. This has to be done with no exception, rebuild if cheaper at around $250 but only by an experienced mechanic who has built many of them. If you can't find a decent price, you can buy a new Tom Woods shaft for $350, compared to Rovers near $800.

I called these guys http://www.loudounrover.com/ for a driveshaft quote. They advertise on this forum. They are about 30 minutes from me. They quoted me $500 parts and labor to replace the driveshaft.
Anyone have other recommendations for a reliable mechanic in Northern Virginia (area code 703)?
Thanks guys.

I would not even bother with the front driveshaft.
I would return the truck and get your money back.
You just bought it and the dealer sold you a lemon, talk to a lawyer and find out what your rights are.
GET YOUR MONEY BACK!!!!
