Squealing sound when first driving
Sitting idle before shifting into D there is no squeal, only after I start to drive forward does it start. After driving a few blocks it will stop and not come back. Can this be due to excessive brake dust build-up? The PO used generic pads which are still installed. Would it be worth getting some LR pads or is there another option I should try?
Hmmm actually, my first thought was a wet fan belt or something. It was sitting out in the rain, but I didn't think the engine bay was wet. Maybe I'm just overly paranoid about my brakes and any ill effect that might cause me to replace the ABS sensors/pads. When I reverse out (20 feet) of my garage there's no squealing, just once it's in D and I start to drive forward. Next time it happens I'll try to pull over quick so I can get out take a listen. If it's a belt or pulley, what would be the cause for the squealing from those parts?
could be old belt or worn out tensioner.
If it doesn't do it is reverse, and you think it is you brakes, it might be. Sometimes, if your brakes are squealing, drive in reverse and hit the brakes hard. This seems to stop the squealing when I put new pads on.
Odds are, you will need to pull the pads and spray some squeal stop on them, if not replace them all together....

The PO had the serp belt replaced a few years ago, not sure of the exact date right now. Last time he changed the brake pads he didn't put any anti-squeak goop on the pads. When I brake they squeal around 5-10 mph, but what I heard last night wasn't the same sound as these brakes now that I think about it. The squeal from the brakes is a constant squeal. What I was hearing last night was a "wee-wee-wee-wee" every second if that helps.
Have someone drive it down the block wjile you listen. I wouldn't drive it until you figure it out. I thought I saw you had CDL somewhere. Lock it, pull the shaft and have it done. You are looking at around $100...
The squeal isn't everytime I drive, just occasionally. The CDL is just the nipple right now no linkage though I can engage manually.
