Default Squeeling from engine

When at idle my engine does this squeel noise then stops when I accelerate. It is coming from the top end somewhere. I am assuming it is a vaccuum issue but maybe also something else. It sounds like a bearing or something starting to seize, that is the best way to describe it. It is a 94 D1 with 135K. thaks for your help.

Damn, finally some one with the same issue. I also think its a vaccum leak too, cause when I was doing the seafoam treatment it started making the same noise as it would if I was sitting in park on idle. Stopped squealing when I stopped pouring then started again when I poured more into the vaccum hose. Oh yeah 98 disco le 99,993 miles.

If you had that much of a vaccum leak you would have a checke engine light on.
Are you sure you don't have a bad belt tensioner, idler pulley, water pump or alternator. I would spend a little time and look.

Indy -mech said the alternator is good. Far as the water pump I see no leaks and temp seems to be good. Dont know if it has been change or not though. Idler pully and tensioner belt? How can I check that? Still new to the rover world and thanks for being patiance with me. Did a tune up a couple of weeks ago. Did not do the pcv. Would that have anything to do with it. Thanks

Start spraying all the bearings associated with the belt with WD-40 - when it quits squealing you know which one it was. Don't assume the WD fixes it - you still have to replace it.

If it's a vaccum leak you can start spraying water on your vaccum hoses until your engine bogs - then you know you've found where it'leaking. Do this only on a cold car - cold water on a hot engine is bad.

Problem with doing that is you can glaze up your belt or pulleys then you have to replace the belt and use carb spray on all the pulleys to cut the glaze off of them.

My problem is not from a pulley or anything like that, I already checked those out. The sound is up on top on the left side. I am thinking about using wd-40 to spray the vacuum lines and then the idle should rise if I remember correctly.

The water pump and tensioner are farly new, I could go for a new belt though now that I think about it. Thanks for all the help.

Is it a whistle or a squeal?

If it's a whistle, check the hose from the idle air intake valve where it meets the intake air hose. Mine was leaking at that spot and whistled -- drove me nuts until it finally broke off completely so I could find it.
