Sounds like you might have broken the clockspring in the steering column when you replaced the steering box. If the clockspring and the steering box aren't synchronized properly when you reconnect the steering shaft, the clockspring will break when you turn the wheel. Has your horn stopped working as well? What type of scanner are you using?

I heard someone else say the rotary coupler as well. How hard is it to fix, because the airbag is in there and I don't want a face full of that. I have a actron obd scanner. I have done everything to my car as well as rebuild engine. Is this something I could tackle in my garage?

Super easy to fix, just need to pull off the air bag and then the steering wheel.

Easy to do, if you need a walk through, PM your number and I can walk you through it.

I followed the directions from another post in the forums. wasn't to hard.

you can do a search for the directions.

I know you unhook battery for 30 minutes to let the srs system to power down. I also took the fuse out after the 30 minute mark.

two screws on the back side of the wheel holds the airbag. I think the size is a #27 torq screw.

You can find youtube videos on how to remove the steering wheel.

I would recommend you have a professional change it out if you are not comfortable working with the airbag. and find the complete directions one how to do this if you are attempting this yourself.

I did it myself. because its to expensive for me to have some one work on it.

ALSO. once you mark the nut to where it was lined up. loosen the nut. but leave it on so when you pull the wheel off. you don't smack yourself in the face. once it breaks free. then remove nut and wheel.

The horn not working is another sign of a likely problem in the rotary coupler, the horn buttons, cruise buttons and driver's airbag all "communicate" with the vehicle through the rotary coupler.

Your Actron OBD scanner will only be able to pull check engine light codes, you would need a different LR specific scanner to read SRS codes, as far as why you're not seeing anything there.
