Was looking for recomedations on starters to avoid or go with. The favorites on Rock auto are Power Select and Uro. But for an extra 100 I can get the Bosch.

When I got a reman from the local auto parts store under their brand name it was identical to the one I was replacing. Even had the genuine land rover emblem stamped into it and bosch solenoid. I'm sure the internals aren't genuine but it's been just fine for 6 months.

My reman from Autozone failed within 1 week. The starter would spin with the key out of the ignition, and I had to unhook the battery to get it to stop. Had to tow it home. Autozone bench tested it good, so I had to buy another and wait for it to be shipped back for better testing. Result: bad starter, money +$150 labor refunded.

Remans are exactly what they say, often original equipment and re-manufactured or in other words, rebuilt, often badly. LR charge top dollar so go with Britpart or better still Bearmach. If you want total reliability go LR or Bosch but the prices are proportionately more.

I’ve had poor luck with Oreilly rebuilt stuff. I had a starter getting weak on my 98 D1 and I had a 20.00 credit from Auto Zone so I grabbed a D2 starter (cheaper than the D1 starter), and walked out the door for barely over 70.00. The reman I got was rebuilt in Mexico, so I had my doubts but it worked very well the 3 years I had that D1. Started quickly & smooth every time. It honestly comes down to the reman you end up with and what was really wrong with it to begin with before it was repaired. I’ve had good luck with Auto Zone in the last few years vs other places.

Online however Parts Player and their Alternators & starters have been top notch as well for the $$$. Amazon or Ebay have them and the prices are shocking. D2 starters were like 50.00 at one time. I’ve installed several of their parts for friends with zero complaints.

Normally 99% of reman’s will be OEM parts just repaired/refurbished. The Auto Zone unit I got for 70.00 clearly said Bosch all over it. It had a newer style solenoid on it, but that’s all that was different.
