Starter ground strap on 2000 Disco?

Starter ground strap on 2000 Disco?
Can I get some input on whether a 2000 Disco II should have a ground strap on the starter? and if so, where does the other end attach?
I do not have one on mine, nothing on the top bolt, nothing I can see anywhere near the starter.
I've been having trouble with starting. My starter cranks very slowly at first, then speeds up as it cranks. It cranks better if it has been started very recently, for example, start / shut down / start.
I'm cleaning connections and grounds, and doing some troubleshooting based on posts I've found. I'm just about convinced it's the starter itself. I clamped one side of a jumper cable to the starter and the
other end to the negative battery terminal, it didn't seem to help.
Thanks.

You can remove your starter and bench check/test it with another charged battery or a powerful enough power jump pack.... https://www.discountstarterandaltern...ing-a-starter/
The D2 starter area doesn’t have a ground strap. But if you want to add one, you can attach a thicker gauge cable to the chassis or directly to the negative side of the battery.

There's no ground strap directly connected to starter, just the one from battery to alternator bracket (it also has a tab incorporated in the cable that grounds the body, just in front of engine compartment fuse box and a small ground strap at back of drivers side head to firewall). If battery is good, sounds like starter. My 04 did this, cranked slow at first and built up speed as it went along. Eventually went bad, new starter zinged the engine over much faster and it started better also. Original starter went about five or six revolutions, new one goes one or two and it's running.
