Default Starting issues..

Hey all.. I have a 2002 Discovery II with 150,000 on it.. I am having an issue starting it..
I had the battery checked and it is ok.. I checked the alternator by removing the negative wire when running and it did not die..
I have to jump start it to get it running.. runs fine, but when turned off then I try to start it it clicks as if the battery is dead or it has a bad connection..
I checked the usual connection.. battery terminal and starter connections...
I even put a good battery from my other truck and the same thing happened.. the only time it starts is when It is jumped and even then it gives a slow 1.5 turns then starts to crank faster and starts..
Im thinking it is the starter?? any help would be apreciated.. this is my wife car and we have a 2 week old... I need to get this fixed ASAP!
Thanks in advance..

Yes that sounds like a bad starter to me.

This is a 30 min job.
The hardest part is breaking the bolts loose.
Not sure about the DII but on a DI they are allen head bolts.

DIIs are normal bolts, but I don't remember the size as it has been 2 years since I messed with mine.

Doh. I blame large quantities of alcohol involved with my engine replacement for my impaired long term memory. Glad you had the foresight to check before getting heavily into it!

9mm allen bolts on the starter, the heat shield has an 8mm bolt if I remember correctly.
