245/74 R 16 if you aren't lifting any... They are the largest you can run without rubbing

 

245/75/R16. You will want a "LT" tire, "LT" stands for light truck, they will hold up better off-road, stiffer/thicker sidewall which will take more abuse.
Standard tire size for a Disco is 235/70/R16, but the 245 is the largest size you can fit without any mods and you will have th biggest tire choices in that size as well.
As for which tire to use, it depends on what type of terrain you will be coming across.
I really like the Cooper Discoverer S/T, the tread patteren is designed for 60% off road and 40% on road, not to noisy, good in the rain and snow, so you can still drive the expressway on your way to off road.
Go to www.coopertires.com, they have alot of info on tires, whatbthe numbers mean on the sidewall etc.

The BFGoodrich M/T is a good mud tire, but not good for anything else. The rubber compound is to hard for the snow and rain, good for rocks and mud, and really noisy on the road.
The Toyo Open Country A/T is a good all around tire.
Just start doing research, ask around, hang out at the tire shop and pick the guys brains. Ask the people at your LR club what tires they use.

The P-38 Range Rover and DII have the same bolt pattern. I didnt see a pic of the wheels, but there were 16"'s right?

This is the P-38 RR.

 

I am happy with my Bfgoodridge all terrain's 245/75/16. I do not have any lift and there is no rubbing. Snow and wet traction is great. It's a good all around tire that is not to noisy on the road. The wheels on my discovery are the same as what was used on the p-38.

Don't forget, you'll have to track down another one of those wheels for the spare. You don't want to drive around looking like this do ya'?

You can find 255/60R18 A/t tires if you dont want to spend the money downsizing to a 16", but like the guys have said 16" give you better side wall, selection, pricing,ect... But I run that size in General grabbers with 18" and I am pretty happy with their preformance. It just depends what you are going to be doing...
