Steering noise
Hi guys,
I have been having a reoccuring problem with my 99 D2 steering. What happens is that when I am stopped and move the wheel to the right it will make a quick noise and vibrate. The only thing I can liken it to (the sound and vibration) would be if you had a chair with pegs on a wooden floor and slid it back and forth (haha the best I could do). Anyway, I checked the steering fluid and it looks to be ok (although I wouldnt mind draining it and putting some new stuff in, if only knew how). The sound seems like it would go away if something were properly greased. Is there anything down below that I can take a look at and oil up. Thanks for the help.

RE: Steering noise
No servicable components on you linkage. To change the fluid, suck all of the fluid out with a turkey baster and replace with new fluid. Drive it around a little and repeat a couple of times. On the last fill, fill with a bottle of Lucas and top off with you favorite fluid. That should make it happy. The sound you have is your pump.
I would flush it very soon...
You can also get under your truck and wiggle the 2 steering bars to look for excessive play. One in front and one ehind the front axle...

RE: Steering noise
First inspect the steering shaft for looseness or wear, then go buy 2 quarts of Vavolines synthetic power steering fluid, 1 bottle of Lucas power steering additive and a turkey baster from the battery dept of your local auto parts store. Then call me and I will walk you thru the steering flush.
