Default Steering Off-Center. Drag Link Adjustment Question.

The steering wheel on my '03 is off-center by a slight bit and I was trying to adjust the drag arm connecting the steering box to the right wheel to center it. After I loosened the clamp bolts I have it soaked in penetrating oil for a while but it still didn't turn.

1] Has anyone run into this problem and how did you get it loose?
2] What size is that adjustment hex head? I was just using a wise-grip as my largest wrench didn't fit.

Alan

Hey thanks crainb. Just a heads up is that I was going to try a propane torch on the connection. Let me know what you find out, especially the size of the adjustment hex ... well it's not something I can take into Sears to match up ...

My truck tracks straight and brakes pretty straight just that the steering wheel is a little off centered so I'm reluctant to spend $100 just for that when I can probably get it done for free. On the other hand with my previous vehicle there was an instance that when the tie rod was really frozen the dealer couldn't loosen it up either. If I get really stuck a new drag arm may still be less than $100?

I just used a pipe wrench on my D1. No hex, just a pipe. That said, mine was bent to heck when I got it, and the drag ling with new ball joints attached ran me $150 from the dealer. I am sure it can be had cheaper, I just needed it then.

Keep soaking the connections.

You are right okdisco. AB shows a new D2 drag link for $170 and Roverland has one for $125 presumably reconditioned. I guess I'll keep soaking and wrenching =>.
