Default Steering wheel shake

Ok. The disco's got a shake in the steering wheel. There is no specific time when it happens, it can be cold, warm, going around a corner . . .

My hubby put a new steering shock on it the other week and it doesn't seem any better.

Any thoughts ?? I'm wondering if it could be the tires might need to be balanced or could I have suspension issues?

Thanks !

Check for a bad hub, check your tires for uneven wear, get the tires balanced, could be a bad steering tie rod end, bad ball joint. Start with the hub and work through the list. Ask ?'s if you don't know how to check these.

I'm willing to bet the tires need to be replaced or re-balanced.

The tire wear is uniform and they have a decent amount of tread left. Wouldn't a bad ball joint make some noise? I'll have him check what you've mentioned.

I was thinking it could be the tires; they are mismatched. My hubby has decided to buy four new tires, but he's not sure what brand. Any recommendations ?

Round black one's work well
Tire choice is very much a personal preference, stick with the known brand names and you can't go too wrong. I would stick on some BFG AT's, but that's just my preference.

Default Great Tires--- Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2's

Hello,
I did some tire research about 9 months ago and wanted a good A/T that other trucks and Land Rover users were running. After a lot research I decided on the Bridgstone Dueler A/T Revo 2. 245/70/16. If you look at that tire on Tirerack.com it is about # 3 in its ranking among reviewers. I think any tire in the top 10 ten is good. But what sold me is 12 other Land Rover users reviewed that tire. I found it locally for about $150 -$160 each.. They are not cheap but I really like my set. I even found a used spare to match on eBay for about $50. There are 76million miles on these from people cumulativly reviewing them. I have had them off road about 4 times and dropped the PSI to 20 they did well.

Here is a really helpful guide that I used as the Bible when I was making a decision.

Tire choice is like choosing a mate for the next 50-60,000 miles.
Pick one you can afford, one that you like the looks of, one that rides nice and does everything you want it to.

I like the Cooper Discoverer S/T, around $650 for a set of 4 installed.

So... did you find a fix? I'm sure others would like to know what your offender was.

My wife's D2 had the same shake on factory Michelin's that looked great, but were 6 years old. Changed them to Kumho Ecsta and it drives like butter!
