Default Steering Wheel shakes at 45 -55 Mph

Hello

I have a 00 Discovery II
and the Steering wheel shakes at 45-55 mph.
I have read many Threads about the same problem i have.
Many Land rover Owners
suggest to replace the U-joints,
or Top and Bottom Joints.
Tires, alignment, and Balance tires.etc,etc
but
And I have One question,
Have Any body have notice on their Land Rover
The ACE Actuator moves or should not move or rotate .
from left to right, .
About 1/2 inch play.

I guess the Bushing , has worn down , and needs to be replaced.
Would this problem, will cause the steering wheel to shake violently?

Most of the causes for a shaky steering wheel are tires or brakes.
So either your tires are out of balance, worn uneven or bad.
The other is a warped brake rotor.
The ACE is suspension and I really dont think that would cause this but I could be wrong.

Have you checked your front hubs? I had the exact same problem and it was due to a bad hub. I still have a tiny shake and I suspect it is the front steering damper or whatever the shock in the front is called. A violent shake sounds like a bad hub though. If you jack up to front end and pull out on your tires is there play?

I don't have ACE though so I'm not sure it that could cause the problem.

Yes
I lifted the Car and i put car stands.
I grab the Front right tire.
one hand top and Bottom. ( no play )
I Grab the tire side ways. ( a little play )

I remove the tire and check the Top & bottom Joints. ( no play )
i check the Steering joints ( no play )
when im driving my car at 45 mph.
I feel the Steering shaking is coming from my Front right tire.
Tomorrow i'll inspect the rotor, Hub, .
i'll keep you guys in touch.
Thank you for your support.

I have the same issue..i have an 04 disco with 255-55r18 and it has a nice shake at about 45mph. i looked at the right front tire and it has an un-even wear on it, good tread at the 12 o'clock but hardly any at the 6 o'clock. i took it to discount tire and the tech told me the tire was comming apart from the inside......might want to look into it.

I'm not sure if this will be helpful or not, I had the same problem and after I changed the "front steering damper" the problem went away. It never happened at a slower speed, only at similar speeds like you are describing. If it's the original damper installed, I noticed they don't last long and need to be replaced anyways.

Just my $0.02.

all the parts involved are relatively inexpensive, it may make sense to do all at once as they are all interconnected. The power steering box is on the left side forward. It pushes a bar that comes to the front of the right wheel where there is a ball joint. Another ball joint behind the right front hub connects to a single bar with the steering damper attached to the frame, it continues over to another ball joint behind the left hub. I recomend taking the bar all the way off as the corrosion and oxidization may make the parts hard to work with. I had to use a 6' lever and a bench vise to free one end. PB blaster is excellent to spray on to help release. An inexpensive ball joint removal tool is also necessary.
