Hi !

What is a "head unit" ? (We may be using different terms here in Europe).

If an amplifier is already installed, then it will probably also be wired to whatever speakers are installed. So far, so good.

"Hardwiring": I understand that this means hooking the cd player of your choice to the amplifier, right ? So why don't you take the amplifier out and take it to a decent stereo shop together with your cd player ? They ought to be able to sell you all the right plugs and so on and the rest is just putting the right wires in which you can probably do yourself.

Alternatively, you can buy the whole shazaam from an L-R dealer, which will probably hurt your wallet.

Regards,

Takeo.

PS. before doing any electrical work to any Land-Rover product, be sure to properly invoke the good grace of Sir Joseph Lucas, Prince of Darkness: draw a pentagram around your truck, light a black candle on every tip of the pentagram, kill a chicken and sprinkle it's blood over your mother-in-law and only work under a full moon.

PPS. only joking.

Default RE: stereo question

well, the head unit is the new cd player, butthe guy said he will cut out the hrness for the factory stereo and solder the wire of the new directly to the old wires, but i did find the new harness for factory amped systems and a din mounting kit for my 2000 disco 2 at www.autotoys.com and to not burn up the factory amp, and still use it too, the harness is a converter that uses rca outputs on the new cd player to power the signal to the factory amp and then i just use a y splitter for the rca to run to my 3 amps for my 6 subwoffers.

and about the pentagram and chicken thing, i will do it any way, i will need all the help i can get, LOL, j/k
but thankyou for helping me out, this is a great forum, and great people here too, thanx all!!!

the wiring is already in place under your passenger seat for a cd player to be installed. No need to replace the head unit just find a used LR cd player on ebay and plug it in, you will also still be able to use the factrocry sterring wheel controlas

The head unit is what goes in the dash. You can use a Metra 70-1786 to connect your new head unit to your factory wiring.
