Default Stering box leak.

Guys, my steering box is leaking at the ''end'', ''neck'' or whatever you call that area where the pitman arm connects to.?!?

Anyways, I've done some testing, cleaning and that is where it is leaking from. Directly at the connection. I've even tried putting 2 bottles of LUCAS power sterring stop leak and it didn't help at all. If one thing, the puddles are getting bigger and bigger.

The vehicle steers perfectly and the pump is absolutely silent.

Question is...Is there a seal, or seal kit that I need to change??? or is my box CAPUT!!!! and I need a new one ????

I've heard that people getting re-built units get leaks shortly after changing it, telling me that they are not worth it.

What's your experience ???

Thanks,

Steph

I have nothing to go on but hearsay and have heard that others have replaced the seal with no problem.
Two bottles of stop leak will plug your pump and kill it.
www.roverlandparts.com
www.autosportsunlimited.com
Either of them will sell good used ones.
Thats right, your in Canada, look around at junk yards.

You have been gone awhile, is everything still good with you Steph?
Wife and kids all doing well? Still no spots on your driveway I hope.

In Canada, we have a place called Land Rover Salvage. I might give him a shout, but replacing the seal is most likely what I'm looking at right now.

I have the seals that I bought from www.roverparts.com. I started on it and discovered I did not have a large enough socket to get the nut of the sector shaft. I have not had the time the last 2 weekends. I have to add ATF about every 4 days.

Darover- Can't remember if you have a D1 or D2, but if you have a D1, get that fluid out and replace it with ATF with stop leak

Yes, I'm on that right now...I've found that British Pacific sell kits for a 1/3 of their price. But I think that AB can sell the shaft seal which is the one I want by itself.

If you are going to pull the box to get the seal, I would do it all at once... If not, go for it!
