still lost on this discovery engine issue
alright guys i know this topic has been beat to death, my 03 disco has engine knock, 2003 4.6 51000 miles. ive already switched to rotella 15w-40, the knocking is present when hot and goes along with rpm but drowns out with noise at higher rpm, i did a oil pressure test and got 22psi idle 50psi at 2k (which i believe is in spec) i used a stethoscope and i think its around cylinder 7
(closest to driver seat i think) its been knocking for 10k miles can anyone help should i just deal with it? i do not plan on putting thousands into this chasing it around considering i got lucky and paid 2k for it in mint condition

With those pressures, and if it's quiet on startup and starts tapping as it warms up, probably a slipped liner.
If you are not loosing coolant, it may not be a death sentence. Others have run many miles with the tapping, or there are drill, tap, plug fixes that others have done.

I've read just as many posts of people who thought they had a slipped liner and found the noise to be valve train related.
Were it me I'd run a few courses of seafoam or similar through the oil to see if some gunk can be removed. Switching to Rotella is a good start but even Rotella will take some time to clean it out good. It could take a few thousand miles of Rotella to get a start on cleaning out the gunk. How black does the oil look? With the Seafoam in oil I'd run a few hundred miles and check. If you have the skills pop the valve covers and see what it looks like.
I always like to try the easy stuff first rather than worry about the worst case scenario.

Yes, seafoam with gas or oil. But anyway, will you be able to shoot a short video with sound? That seems to work better understanding your noise/tick situation.
