Default still won't start...

Hello all,

My 2000 Disco II left me stranded for the first time a few days ago. Drove to work, parked, went to work, came back, and would not start. Was running well up until then. Spent some time on these forums trying to figure out what was the cause. Checked fuses, all were fine. Sprayed starter fluid in the intake, nothing. Figured it was an electrical issue. Bought a brand new "Crank sensor" as recommended, still won't start. I am a poor college student, with a very limited budget right now as all my summer paychecks went to school. If you had $100 to your name, what would you check next?

thank you

the check engine light does not stay on after cranking. seems to be normal. I use 93 octane and techron every 3rd tankful.

Reset the inertia switch.
1. Check spark
2. Check gas
You should run premium all the time or risk ruining your engine.

status update...

truck still wont start, however, after cranking for a few secs, all dash lights are off except for the battery light, the oil pressure light(both normally on until truck actually starts)...but now the amber hill decent light is flashing, and the "S" and "M" mode green lights are both flashing at the same time. i read that the s and m green lights flashing is something wrong with the transmission? and finally...the little red light that would indicate overheating is always on, the gauge however is obviously at the very bottom.

fyi, the truck has 130k well maintained miles on it. all major service was performed when it should have been, truck has never given me any problems until now.

Borrow a battery from one of your buddy's cars and see if your battery is going dead? It is possible you left something (headlights) on, or battery is just tired.

It is... I'm guessing you use techron every third tank... is that what you meant in your post?

The inertia switch is on the firewall, on the passenger side. Press down on the top to reset it.

If still no luck, check to see if you have spark. The coil pack may be bad.

Get a new battery or re-charge yours. A weak battery will cause those warning lights to flash.

inertia switch (this is one on a D1 but I'm fairly certain they are the same on the DII) push the top to reset but it sounds like you have an ignition problem. As already stated..charge your battery, borrow one, make sure its connected very tight if that doesn't work go to parts store and buy a spark tester. It looks like a spark plug with an alligator clip attached to it and should cost about $5..get somebody at the store to show you how to use it. then get back to us with results.
