Default stopped lurking and decided to start looking for a Disco

Im from Austin and I have had a Jeep for about a year now and I have had nothing but problems with it. I am looking to get an older disco and would like some tips on what I should look for when I look at a vehicle to purchase. I will be looking for a 97 and newer model so I would like to know any quirks that these years have. Also what is the upkeep on these bad boys. I would likely be changing the oil at least once a month so is synthetic what I would be needing.

Greetings and welcome to the forums. The first thing you should do right now is look at the Disco Tech section. Has all the information you need in regards to buying your first Discovery, common issues and how to repairs, and side by side comparison of Discovery 1 and 2. If your particularly looking for a D2, just know that the D2 models start in 1999-2004. D1 starts in 1994-1999. Take your time when shopping for the right Discovery and make sure you know exactly what your getting into. They are very rugged vehicles and if you take care of them they will last forever. My former 1998 Disco made a trip from New Hampshire down to Pennsylvania and back again with a broken rear driveshaft, leaking bad power steering gearbox, engine misfiring, bald tires, unaligned tires - long story but she got me back home in one piece despite being crippled!

There was a nice condition 03 for sale in the private sale section for 3k looked to be well cared for. All around good condition with newer tires. Lots to think about but a rover is way more luxury than a older jeep. Good luck!

They are great vehicles but they require upkeep and if it is not done...then lookout!

Greetings and welocome to the forum. Yes some of these girls can be a pain to work on, plug wires, o2 sensor conectors etc. They can be a bit labour intensive and its better to keep up with the maintenance or they will bite you in the ***. But that is part of the fun and the frustration that comes with owning a classic British vehicle....

Make sure you have a complete repair history with documentation, if not pay accordinging. The whole name of the game with LR is repair history if you dont have it in writting then assume it was never done.

Look for a 99-2000 or 2004, 99-2000 you can add a CDL for short money and the 04 will already have a CDL. This will save you a lot of money that you will have to spend with a 2001-2003 to get a CDL.

(actually some 2001 they changed the case)
