I've been trying to get this fill plug our and I just can't get it to budge. I've used a breaker bar and even a power bar. I'd like to change the fluid, but not sure how to proceed getting the fill plug out. Any suggestions?

 

I haven’t had this issue and I’m not sure how well heat would work in this location, but heat often works really well. It won’t work if the oil level is near the seized plug, as the oil will transfer the heat away too quickly.

 

More leverage!!! It will move.

 

I used a a size 10 boot against my tool to help a guy in defender out laying underneath, seemed to work well

 

OK. So dumb question, when you've broken it free has it been on the ground or on a lift? I'm on the ground. Might take it to my mechanic and see if he will let me put it on a lift to break it free. Can't seem to get a great angle while on the ground. I'll keep working on it.

 

@discoinfernoOSV I was on the ground wet muddy ground, I was already wet and we were parked for the night so not a big deal

 

Never heard of the plug being that stuck. There are only like 5-6 threads holding it in. If you do get it out you might want to check that the case is not cracked.

 

I had the exact same issue on my rear diff I ended up using a jack on a breaker bar to get it loose.

 

I just saw ratcheting breaker bars on sale at Home Depot, but resisted the urge to spend...

 

That's a hell of an idea. As I recall the breaker bar was at a very awkward angle which was part of the problem. I'm going to try again next weekend, will attempt this if I can.
