You say it fired briefly with starting fluid but then died. I get that, but you really do need to check for spark. In a huge percentage of cases like this the problem is the crankshaft position sensor. I can't tell you how many cases I've read on these forums the last several years of owners buying a fuel pump and going to the trouble of replacing it when it was just the crankshaft position sensor.

That said, it is also true that in many cases the crankshaft position sensor will be a problem only when the truck is warm so if you can't start it stone cold perhaps it is something else.

I hope for your sake it's not like the case of another fellow on these forums who had similar symptoms a couple weeks ago and ended up finding that the timing chain was broken.

Maybe somehow the BCU is no longer synced with the ECU.

Try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes then reconnect. Insert key, put to 2nd position and leave it like this for 10 minutes. Then try and start it.

If that doesn't work, try unlocking and locking it 3 times.

Cheers

Problem solved it was the fuel pump. purchased two of the airtex direct replacements and they weren't delivering any pressure. ordered an entire pump from advanced auto parts. fired right up.

Who would have thought you bought to bad fuel pumps. What kind was the last one you bought?
