Default Stupid HDC question... Also brake pads!

If I press the Hill Descent Control Button. Why do I feel like nothing is happening? The hill I was going down was kinda steep and it felt as if no brakes were applied.

Also I think I got the 3 Amigos sign. (Traction Control, HDC, and ABS) I heard somewhere in this forum that it can come up from squeaking brakes. My brakes are currently squeaking so would I need to replace the brake pads? I already ordered them. How would I replace the brake pads?

Your HDC does not work because of the 3 amigos. Have you looked at your old brake pads to see if they are worn? Have you checked your rotors? No point in doing the pads if the rotors are shot. Pads are easy as are the rotors. Look here for a tutorial:

Your amigos could be from anything to a bad ABS modulator to a bad ABS sensor. After your brake job take it to the dealer to get your ABS codes read (or buy an ABS amigo).

You need to stop what you are doing and and regroup. You have ordered pads, not sure from who and the condition of your rotors.
HDC is only used when off road in low range, need to read your owners manual, then send me your number and I'll call you.

Maybe my description was a bit vague.
I was in low range and it was in a partially steep hill.
I ordered pads from bputah.com and they were oem ones that I ordered.
When i start braking, I can hear my brakes squeaking and then the 3 Amigos light up.

The HDC will keep you from going faster than 5mph, and that feels pretty fast going down a hill, if you never reached that speed then the HDC will not kick in.

And like already mentioned, "3 amigo's" and no traction control, or Hill Decent Control or ABS.

So, with the old pads squeaking, you will need to clean up the glaze on the rotors before installing the new pads along with some sound deadening material. After replacing the brakes, then do a 3 pint, DOT 4 brake flush and hopefully you won't squeak any more and if your 3 Amigos stay off, you will then regain the HDC, ETC and ABS full time.

Gotcha. Except I don't know how to do any of those. Could you point me to the right direction? I sound like the most retarded person with all these questions but I recently got this truck and I only recently got my license. So it's my first car

The only stupid question is the one not asked.

Jack up one side of the truck.
Support it with jack stands.
Remove both front and rear wheels.
Remove the old brake pads.
Push both caliper pistons back with a C-clamp using the old brake pads as something to push against.
Install new brakes pads.
Put wheels back on.
Do other side.

To ask the next question, how do we do the brake fluid flush?
